I escaped from jail and took the warden's shoes!
Who ever looks at a man's shoes? I was just about ready to escape, tonight was the last night I was ever going to spend in jail. The warden routinely had me doing his accounting and shining his shoes, but he had no idea I was using the extra freedom to plot my escape. Day after day I was in his office, slaving away for free doing what I used to get a six figure salary for. Night after night, however, I was secretly hiding behind a poster of Rita Hayworth, digging through my wall to freedom.

Oh, the warden was such a jerk. I had to deal with it, though. Working for him beat working anywhere else in the building exponentially. The risk of getting in a fight was nil, and it wasn't all that bad, for prison anyway. The warden had me working on money laundering for them, knowing full well there was nothing I could do but obey. I made the guy so much money and I got to go back “home” to a barred cell to sleep. But, as I said, no sleep for me.

On the night of my planned escape, I stole the warden's shoes and his ledger documenting all the money laundering. I was going to escape through my tunnel, grab some money, and hit the road. A decade in jail with no hope to be reinstated into society really makes you miss things like open fields and the ocean. You don't want anything anymore because you've learned to live with nothing. All you want is to be free.

So I walked through the jail wearing the warden's newly shined shoes. The tunnel was finished and I was ready to leave. I was about ten feet away from my cell when,

“Hey, where did you get those shoes?”

“Oh....crap.”

It was at that moment that I realized things don't really work like they do in the movies.
