I was on mile 753 when it hit me…
I forgot to tell Nick to turn off the microwave. Two weeks ago, I was getting ready to leave my apartment for a cross-country foot race when I had the good notion to eat a burrito. I pressed the auto-start button and walked to my room to put on my running shoes. When I walked back to get my burrito, the microwave door wouldn’t open. Somehow the microwave set itself to stay on without a timer. When I went to unplug it, I couldn’t reach the outlet behind the refrigerator. As I was in a huge rush to get to the race, I left. I strapped on my Airbak Hydro-Trak, and headed out the door, promising to remember to call my friend Nick when I had a chance, to tell him to unplug the microwave.
And now here I am, two weeks later and half-way across the country, knowing that inside my tiny apartment the next Chernobyl is stewing up tex-mex style.
