You should have seen how still I was.
It all looked empty. My eyes peered from the back door over to the picnic table at the opposite end of the backyard. In the middle of those two landmarks was my target: the garage. As I said, the entire yard looked empty. It looked empty and was silent. No one rustling around in the trees, no chirping crickets and no owls hooting into the night … it was complete silence. To anyone passing through, I wasn’t even there.
