I should have been Entrepreneur of the Year.
Back in the day, I ran one of the best businesses anyone had ever seen. It was a sweat shop, plain and simple, so we called it the Sweat Shop. I’d vaguely heard of those kinds of stores popping up in East Asia, but as far as I knew I had the first one erected right here in the U.S.A.

People would line up for miles to buy our sweat. We started by selling different sizes but as we grew we started mixing up sweat from different diets. Our employees were probably the happiest in the area as all they had to do was workout. Some ran on treadmills, others opted to lift weights. My first year anniversary gift to the company was a racquetball court.

You might have noticed I’m speaking in past tense; I don’t own this company anymore. We fell into a bit of a rut during the recession and we had to cut costs. People just couldn’t afford to go to the store and buy their sweat anymore. Unable to subject my employees to the removal of the racquetball court or other amenities like the sauna, we started watering down the product with artificial sweat. We sold containers that were half sweat and half water steamed from the Conair Deluxe Fabric Steamer. I know; it’s not something I’m proud of.

A ruse like that couldn’t be sustained for long. One of the containers got into the hands of an inspector (I always told them to give inspectors full sweat) and the entire operation was blown. We shut down within a few months and I’ve been mending my reputation since.

I still use the Conair Deluxe Fabric Steamer, though, that thing is amazing.
