ICE ALERT, BE CAREFUL!
I woke up late. It was the kind of awakening that feels ominous, when you feel so fully rested that you couldn’t possibly be on time. I jumped out of bed at the sight of the clock and heard the front door closing; my husband had just left for work. Downstairs, I took a gander at my Oregon Scientific Wireless Solar Thermometer.
“Oh my, the Ice Alert light is on!” I exclaimed.
Realizing that the light would only be on in the event of icy conditions, I rushed to my car to warn my husband of his impending doom. In my hurry, I forgot to grab my keys, necessitating a run back into the house to find them and then a run back outside to get into the car. Nickelback was on the radio, but I was too focused to change it to something that wasn’t horrible. If anything, it made me go faster. When I arrived, I was completely out of breath.
“Tom … you have to be careful … ice alert … the roads … ice alert …”
“Uh … I got here just fine,” he responded.
“Whew! What a relief!”
