Roddy wasn't having the best of luck after being laid off from his job. He drifted from town to town, trying to find work but mostly just living off a paltry amount of charity. All that changed, however, during a visit to a soup kitchen.
Discovering that the soup kitchen was actually some kind of front, Roddy stole a box of goods and took them out into an alleyway. Inside were a bunch of Airbak Hydro-Tek Hydration Backpacks. Viewing it as a stroke of luck, Roddy donned one of them and filled it up with water.
He noticed while he drank out of it that he started seeing subliminal messages in advertisements and money. Furthermore, certain people had deformed faces, as if they belonged to aliens. To make matters worse, these aliens could tell that Roddy could see them; they were not happy.
Realizing that the jig was up, Roddy grabbed a shotgun and proclaimed that he has come there “to chew bubblegum and kick butt” ... and he was all out of bubble gum.
